This year, Cabrini's annual Grandparents' Day Masses took place on October 11th and 18th. Some grandparents who attended traveled from around the corner and some traveled from many cities away to see their grandchildren. For many students, this is an important day. Grandparents' Day may be the only time of the year some students see their grandparents. Cabrini celebrates Grandparents' Day to recognize and appreciate grandparents. On these days, the Cabrini family, along with their own families, come together to celebrate Mass.
Grandparents' Day at Cabrini starts with a Mass and ends with cookies and drinks with grandparents. Fortunately, even the students without grandparents present still get to participate in the Mass with the rest of the school. After Mass, students and grandparents were able to take professional pictures and enjoy refreshments in the back of the gym. Junior, Heidi Kirsh said, "My favorite part of Grandparent's Day was Father Kyle's homily" because he talked about what a joy grandparents are. For some, their favorite part was their grandparents. "My favorite part of Grandparents' Day was sitting and talking to my grandparents after Mass", said junior, Lori Launey. Junior, Jillian Cook said the importance of Grandparents' Day to her was "being able to spend time with loved ones and make good memories." Campus Ministry worked hard to put the Mass together as well. Ms. Arand put in hours of work to make the entire assembly a success.
Grandparents' Day is a fun and memorable day at Cabrini. The assembly shows the love and community within our school. The assembly allows for everyone to participate, even students without grandparents present and for faculty, too. After Grandparents' Day, new memories are made and new pictures for fridges are brought home. For now, we wait another year to celebrate our wonderful grandparents.
