Apply Yourself: Try Advanced Placement

What better way to prepare yourself for college than taking a college level course here at Cabrini! Circling an AP course on your scheduling form may seem intimidating at first, but it is worth the risk! Not only will showing interest in challenging courses appeal to college admissions officers, but you will learn how to balance immense amounts of work and other types of school activities. And the best part is that our AP teachers are experienced and can help you through the course one class at a time.
So what really is AP anyway?

AP stands for advanced placement. In AP classes, teachers are required by the college board to teach more skills than the average academic class, such as extra reading, writings, and research. At the end of the year, students in these classes are required to take the AP exam. This is the test that determines if the AP students are eligible for college credit in the course they took.
Cabrini offers AP classes in subjects including English III and IV, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, American History, World History, and United States Government and Politics, Computer Apps, Calculus, Art, and more. I strongly recommend taking at least one AP class in a subject of your interest before you graduate. AP courses provide the deeper understanding that can influence your career choices.

Ms. Boyer, Cabrini's AP Coordinator, said,"Everyone should take one course in an area that they are interested in before you go to college. Any college bound student should consider taking an AP course. It is not about the grades or the exam; it is about the exposure to the material."
